Arturo Sanchez-Alvarez has been named the Latin American regional representative for the International Alliance for Youth Sports (IAYS).
Sanchez, a resident of Monterrey, Mexico, brings with him an extensive sports background, both as an athlete and athletic administrator.
“We are extremely pleased to have Arturo Sanchez-Alvarez as a key member of the IAYS team,” said Fred Engh, its founder and president. “He has an extensive and impressive background working with children, but most importantly he is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children through sports.”
Sanchez operates the Liga de Campeones – a sports development center for children that is dedicated to teaching youth sports in a fun and safe environment. He is also a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) through the National Alliance for Youth Sports.
Sanchez has spent time as a civil engineer in Baja, Calif., and the Yucatan, where he assisted in developing several local swimming schools.
As a graduate of the Technology Institute of Monterrey (ITESM), Sanchez played soccer for the junior varsity team and was co-founder of the ITESM Cyclist Club. While in school Sanchez also became one of the top triathletes in the state, participating in several national events. In 1995 he participated in the Amateur Triathlon World Cup in Cancun, México.
Still every bit the sports enthusiast, Sanchez is looking to create a change in the youth sport culture in Mexico and Latin America. He currently lives with his wife Thania and their three children. |
